This may be your last chance to see a fireworks festival this year! The Konan Shimin Festival takes place this Saturday in Konan City江南市. Konan City is a midsized “bed town” about 25 minutes outside of Nagoya towards the city of Inuyama on the Meitetsu line. This year’s fireworks display will take place this Saturday at Konan Suitopia near the Kiso River. From 9-16:00 there will be stage shows, food stalls, and entertainment, and the fireworks will begin at 19:00. To get to Konan City, you should take the Meitetsu Line from Nagoya station towards Inuyama/Shin-Unuma. If you take the express it will only take about 25 minutes. From Konan Station exit to the left, and take the shuttle bus from there. It should cost 100 yen, and take about 15 minutes.

If you are truly adventurous, you might consider visiting Inuyama Castle during the afternoon, and walking to the festival from there. I say adventurous, because the best directions I will give you is to walk along the river away from Inuyama Station. There is a long walking path along the river, and if you can find that you are well on your way there. It would take about 40 minutes to an hour to walk there, and you would be looking for a kind of spaceship looking building that is designed as a viewing point for the area. As those directions are pretty vague, I will let you in on a little secret; you could also just take the train from Inuyama to Konan, but what fun would that be?
